A lazy day, just eating and getting ready really
It was a lovely morning in Paris and we managed to get to the train station with plenty of time to spare, negotiate the booth to print off our tickets, all good so far, then discovered my purse had been stolen, not good! Fortunately I had split my money in different parts of my luggage, but doesn’t make you feel good!
So we got to St Jean, set off for accommodation, already feeling down because of my purse, accommodation was further out of town than I expected, got there to find it was the same place we stayed at last time, the very same place which advertised free wifi, neglectinging to say that the wifi was only available in the reception area which was only open a few hours a day!
Got inside to find the three beds included a sofa bed and a set of tiny bunks, and there were only two doonas! I was less than happy by this stage, hate that feeling when you know you are being grumpy but can’t quite pull yourself out of it!
However, a refreshing glass of sangria and a delicious salad and I began to feel better .
The hotel had updated to wifi in the rooms, the sofa bed was surprisingly comfy and we eventually found the missing doonas!
All is well with the world !

Quote of the day from Liz early on our morning in Paris “What’s with the cold? This is is bullshit”
We had a very ‘tourists in Paris’ morning – a brisk early morning walk to the Eiffel Tower,
hot drinks at a cafe with cute little Eiffel Tower tables, Jess had the best hot chocolate in the world.
Crepes for breakfast, I managed to ask for lemon with the sugar crepe. Love it when the waiter listens with that”Oh bless” look on his face and answers in perfect English! Best crepes in the world.
A quick trip to Pierre Hermes for the best macarons in the world then off to the train station for our journey to St Jean Pied de Port, the gateway to Camino !

It’s 5 am and today is the day we fly to Paris! But not until 11:25 pm, it’s going to be long day! I am off into the city to get my backpack looked at again. And I also have to go into the bank to put money on my travel card. Because I use it so seldom I have forgotten my username/password combination, and really, who writes these things down? I had intended to go to the bank on Friday but even though I knew it was Easter, I hadn’t actually linked that with not being able to go to the bank! I tried the 24/7 travel card line, listened to all the options, pressed all the numbers , omg what a performance that is, then due to RSI from all the options, mustn’t have pressed hard enough and the electronic voice said “I’m sorry, we could not process that, goodbye!” And disconnected!!!
I will miss this living art from my dining room window
But I’m looking forward to the pilgrim life with nothing to worry about except putting on my backpack, picking up my sticks and getting to the next albergue!
