Oops, I got so excited about New York that I forgot the last day of Road trip 101!
It was sad to finish our magnificent trip along the Oregon and California Coast on the 101. So many memories! The winding road along the cliffs, the soaring redwood forests, all in celebration of D3’s 30th Birthday.
I guess the last day was a bit of an anti-climax and I think our drivers D3 and Father Bear we’re glad to say goodbye to our trusty steed. They did a wonderful job of chauffeuring us down the coast.

How exciting it was to see the Golden Gate Bridge, shrouded in mist.

The 101 took us past our motel on Lombard street, (not the windy bit) so we dropped D2 and D3 off and negotiated the last drive to the drop off at the airport.
We found D2 and D3 at a sports bar, at first glance inside I thought it would be the place for a young lady to meet some guys. However I soon realized the guys were far to engrossed in the football game to take notice of anyone else!
It was an early night for everyone after a few drinks and something to eat. We only had one day in San Francisco, the next morning D2 and D3 headed off to explore on their own while Father Bear and I wandered up Union St. The houses in San Francisco have such character, I don’t know how many photos I took.

We stood at the bottom of the hill leading up to the windy bit of Lombard St, then decided against tackling it! We’ve seen it before!
I loved the shops along Union St, the people of San Francisco sure do love their fur babies, they are well catered for. As well as a couple of doggy accessories shops, we saw

We decided on a lunch at Fishermans Wharf for our last meal together, it was quite a walk from our motel, the guy on the desk assured me it was not very far, and no ma’am not all that hilly. I guess his comments were based on the fact that he was about 20 and looked like he worked out a bit!

Anyway we finally made it, met up with the girls and had a delicious lunch.

It was Grand Final Day and the plan was to find a bar to watch it. It was one of those ideas that sounded great at the time, but when the time came we were all too tired, the game not starting until 9:00pm San Francisco time. So we had take away hamburgers and Father Bear and I watched it on the iPad. We had an early morning flight to New York the next day and decided we wouldn’t watch it all if it wasn’t a good game, needless to say we were glued to the end! Father B and I are Bombers’ supporters so we’re not all that invested in the outcome, however it was a great game, as a West Australian I was glad to see our state win, and I can just imagine how excited my mum, aunty and uncle would have been!
So that’s it, a sad farewell to D3, but lots of lovely memories until we see her again, wherever that may be!
Fabulous! Nice to see a little glimpse of Alcatraz again. We were also there over twenty five years ago, oh my, time flies doesn’t it. Loving your adventures! Thanks for sharing xx
